Clackamas County's 324,000 voters can now find their five nearest ballot drop boxes and get driving directions through a new online tool.

The county clerk's office announced the pilot locator on Friday, Oct. 16. Available at bit.ly/Clackamas-OR, the tool uses a voter's phone or computer location to display nearby official drop sites on a map. Voters pick a site and the tool opens turn-by-turn directions in their mapping app.

The county developed the locator with two national partners: the Partnership for Large Election Jurisdictions (PLEJ), a nonpartisan network for large election offices, and the University of Rhode Island's Engineering for Democracy Institute (EDI). EDI develops data tools for election operations.

"This new tool allows voters to see nearby options from wherever they are and then select a site and route that works best for them," County Clerk Catherine McMullen said in a county statement.

The county clerk's office said it will evaluate how the tool performs during the Nov. 3 general election before deciding whether to keep it.

For Lake Oswego voters, the two local drop sites are Lake Oswego City Hall at 380 A Ave. and Westlake Park at 14165 Bunick Dr. Both offer drive-up access.

West Linn voters can use drop boxes at West Linn City Hall, 22500 Salamo Road, or the West Linn Public Library, 1595 Burns St.

All 26 drop sites are open around the clock until 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to the county clerk's office.

Ballots went out to voters Wednesday, Oct. 14, according to a county elections notice. Anyone who has not received a ballot by Thursday, Oct. 22, should call 503-655-8510 or email [email protected].

Tuesday, Oct. 27, is the last recommended day to return a ballot by mail. After that date, the county recommends using a drop site.

Voters can also sign up for the county's Track Your Ballot service to get email, text or voice alerts when their ballot is mailed, received and accepted for counting. The service notifies voters who need to fix a signature issue.

Two in-person service locations handle replacement ballots, registration help and language assistance: the Clackamas County Elections Office at 1710 Red Soils Ct., Suite 100, in Oregon City, and the Happy Valley Vote Center inside the Happy Valley Library at 13793 SE Sieben Park Way. Both will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.
