Lake Oswego poets have until Wednesday, Sept. 30, to submit original work for a gallery show exploring the theme "Small Wonders."
Lake Oswego Public Library has partnered with Toolbox Gallery in Milwaukie to collect poems from adults of all skill levels, according to the city's library calendar. Submissions are due by 7 p.m. and must be sent electronically through Toolbox Gallery's call for submissions page, where full content guidelines are also posted.
The theme asks writers to look closely at what they might otherwise overlook. The Clackamas Arts Alliance, which promoted the call, described the prompt as an invitation to find beauty in the ordinary. Poems can be written in any form, and no prior publishing experience is required.
Selected poems will be displayed at Toolbox Gallery in early November. The gallery sits at 2029 Southeast Jefferson St. in Milwaukie and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The partnership pairs a Lake Oswego institution with a Milwaukie arts space that regularly hosts community-driven exhibitions. For Lake Oswego residents, the call offers a chance to see local writing on a gallery wall alongside visual art in a neighboring city.
