Lake Oswego residents who missed out on two summer concerts canceled by wildfire smoke and thunderstorms will get a second chance: both bands are coming back for a free doubleheader at Foothills Park on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Wild Boys, a Duran Duran tribute act, will open from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Band After Midnight, an ABBA tribute group, follows from 7:45 to 9 p.m.
The city canceled Band After Midnight's original July 22 performance at Foothills Park after thunder and lightning rolled through. Wild Boys lost their Aug. 5 slot at Westlake Park when wildfire smoke forced cancellations across the city, with Lake Oswego's air quality index reaching unhealthy levels that week. Both bands will now share Foothills Park, at 199 Foothills Road, for the makeup date, according to the Lake Oswego Review.
The Sept. 2 show falls just before Labor Day weekend and caps the 32nd season of the Lake Oswego Summer Concert Series, hosted by Parks & Recreation. The series rotates among three parks: Millennium Plaza Park, Foothills Park and Westlake Park.
Concert coordinator Lance Hofstad described the series' draw in a July 1 season preview: "You can see your neighbors, hang out and listen to some good music. It's a great way to bring people together and be outside."
Food vendors have been on-site at Wednesday concerts throughout the season, though the city has not confirmed vendor availability for the Sept. 2 makeup date.
