The Oswego Heritage Council's annual Collector Car & Classic Boat Show turns 25 this summer, bringing classic cars, antique boats, motorcycles and even bicycles to George Rogers Park and Sundaleaf Plaza on Sunday, Aug. 30.

Admission is free. The show runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Ron Erickson, who has participated since the first show 25 years ago, told the Lake Oswego Review in its Aug. 7 preview that the event has kept its multigenerational pull. "There are still people that love cars, and everybody likes to go to a car show, especially when you don't have to pay to get in," Erickson said. He noted that younger enthusiasts tend toward Japanese market cars while older participants favor the vintage American classics.

Erickson remembers show creator John Baines arriving at that first event with a collectible Mercedes. Back then, the show filled a parking lot where Oswego Tap House now stands.

The show has grown well beyond cars. The boat show portion at Sundaleaf Plaza, within walking distance of the main car display, is sponsored by Harnish Properties, which will select a winner of the Spirit of Lake Oswego Award for favorite boat of the day. All boats arriving from outside Oswego Lake must be certified clean.

Active Water Sports will take visitors on a loop around the bay during the show.

Lake Monsters Robotics, the FIRST Robotics Competition team made up of about 35 students from Lakeridge and Lake Oswego High Schools, will run robotics demonstrations for families.

Oswego Heritage Council Executive Director Kathryn Sinor said in the Review's Aug. 7 story that the show draws her in despite not being a self-described "Car Person." She said she enjoys talking to owners about the work they've poured into their vehicles and seeing the passion up close.

All proceeds support the Oswego Heritage Council, which hosts exhibits and conducts historical research at the Oswego Heritage House.

How to participate

Vehicle owners can pre-register at oswegoheritage.org. Pre-registration costs $30 for a car, $20 for a motorcycle and $10 for a bicycle. Day-of fees are higher: $40, $30 and $20, respectively.

Food and drink vendors include Donut Days, Kona Ice, Briskets and Gravy, Fried and Travelin' Tom's Coffee Truck. Organizers note the show may close early depending on heat.
