Lakeridge rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit to beat No. 8 Mountainside 34-22 on Friday, Sept. 18, while Oregon City beat Newberg 34-24 on the road. The two wins completed a 4-for-4 sweep for Three Rivers League (TRL) teams in Week 3.

Lakeridge 34, Mountainside 22

The Pacers trailed 22-21 midway through the fourth quarter before junior quarterback Carson Pickens and receiver Jagger Salazar connected on a 71-yard go-ahead touchdown with about seven minutes left, according to KATU.

Pickens finished with 284 yards passing and three touchdowns, according to OSAAtoday. He opened the scoring with an 88-yard strike to sophomore running back Mason Girt, who stiff-armed a defender on his way to the end zone, West Coast Biased reported.

It was the second straight week Lakeridge faced a gut check in the fourth quarter and came out on top. The Pacers beat Lincoln 43-42 on Sept. 11 after falling behind late.

Pickens, a junior a little over 6 feet tall, is among the state's top passers. He ranked 21st in Oregon with 322 passing yards entering the Mountainside game, according to MaxPreps.

After Lakeridge's win over Lincoln on Sept. 11, coach Spencer Phillips told the Lake Oswego Review that Pickens is a natural thrower who is fiercely competitive and finds a way to get the job done.

The win improved Lakeridge to 3-1 after a Week 0 loss at North Medford. Mountainside, ranked No. 8 in Class 6A entering the game, fell to 2-2.

Oregon City 34, Newberg 24

Senior running back Kasen Saffer rushed for three touchdowns as Oregon City beat Newberg 34-24 at Newberg. Quarterback Mason Parmeter added a touchdown pass to Colin Smith, and Colin Felkins returned a fumble recovery 81 yards for a score on a turnover forced by Ace Dotson, the team's official Instagram account reported.

The Pioneers' defense forced four turnovers. Ayden Scoggins picked off two passes and Luke Hoffman intercepted one.

Saffer ranked fourth in Oregon with 332 rushing yards entering the Newberg game, per MaxPreps. The bounce-back win was significant for Oregon City, which had lost 49-7 to Nelson in Week 2.

The victory moved Oregon City to 3-1.

TRL sweep

Lake Oswego beat Sherwood 51-16 and West Linn beat Wilsonville 49-20 on the same night, giving all four TRL programs wins in Week 3, according to The Oregonian.
