Students in Oregon City School District 62 can no longer carry phones, earbuds, or headphones on their bodies during the school day.

The district's updated Student Electronic Device Storage Policy requires all three device types to be stowed in lockers, classroom storage areas, or backpacks, Patch reported Saturday, Sept. 19. The rule aims to reduce classroom distractions.

Enforcement details have not been made public. The district has not said whether exceptions exist for medical devices or students with individualized education plans.

The school year began Sept. 8. The board's next scheduled meeting is a work session on Monday, Sept. 28.
