Oregon City residents looking to lower their summer energy bills can get free, in-person help at a one-hour Energy Education Workshop on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Pioneer Community Center.

The workshop, which runs from 10 to 11 a.m. at 615 5th St., will cover practical ways to reduce energy use, lower utility costs, and explain home accessibility grants available to qualifying homeowners and renters.

The event's official subtitle is "Home Accessibility Grant Program," signaling a focus on making homes both more efficient and more livable, according to the city's event listing.

Energy assistance programs available in Clackamas County

While the city has not announced specific presenters or confirmed which programs will be covered, several county and state resources serve area residents who meet income thresholds.

Clackamas County's Weatherization Services provides free energy upgrades to households earning at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. Priority goes to seniors, people with disabilities, and families with children. Those upgrades include attic and floor insulation, air sealing, and sealed heating ducts. Participating households save an average of $884 per year, with results ranging from $100 to $2,000 annually, according to county data. The county weatherizes about 60 homes each year.

Mobile homeowners in Clackamas County may also qualify for a separate Roof Grant Program. Residents can call 503-650-3338 for details.

At the state level, Oregon Housing and Community Services funds bill-payment assistance through the Oregon Energy Assistance Program and LIHEAP, both available to households earning at or below 60% of Oregon's median income. Renters and homeowners alike may apply.
