The Lawrence Gallery in downtown Lake Oswego will sell limited-edition photographs of John Lennon taken by his former companion May Pang during a three-day exhibition running Friday, August 14, through Sunday, August 16, including two images never before available to the public.

The exhibition, titled "The Lost Weekend — The Photography of May Pang," will be held at 540 N. State St. All works will be available for purchase. Pang will be at the gallery all three days, meeting visitors and sharing stories behind the images.

The gallery was founded in 1977 and is now owned by Bradley and Heidi Lawrence.

What's on display

Pang was Lennon's companion from late 1973 through 1975, an 18-month stretch Lennon called his "Lost Weekend." During that period she took candid photographs of Lennon in private, relaxed settings.

Two images have never been available to the public before, according to the exhibition press release: the only known photograph of Lennon signing the contract to dissolve the Beatles, and one of the last known photographs of Lennon and Paul McCartney together, taken March 29, 1974.

The collection also includes images from a Santa Monica house where Pang and Lennon stayed with Ringo Starr, Keith Moon of The Who, and Harry Nilsson.

What Lennon recorded during the Lost Weekend

During those 18 months, Lennon recorded the albums "Mind Games," "Walls and Bridges," and "Rock and Roll," and collaborated with Elton John, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, and George Harrison, among others. "Walls and Bridges" produced his only solo No. 1 hit single, "Whatever Gets You Through the Night."

Pang also arranged for Julian Lennon to visit his father for the first time in nearly three years. One of her photographs of Julian appears on the cover of Julian's album "Jude."

Documentary tie-in

The exhibition coincides with availability of the feature-length documentary "The Lost Weekend: A Love Story," produced by Briarcliff Entertainment. The film is streaming on Amazon Prime, Tubi, Roku, YouTube TV, and other platforms.

Pang has published three books about her time with Lennon: "Loving John," "John Lennon — The Lost Weekend," and "Instamatic Karma," which features photographs from her private archives.
