Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation is hosting two free Halloween events on Saturday, Oct. 31, giving families a full day of trick-or-treating across town.
The morning starts at the Lake Oswego Farmers' Market at Millennium Plaza Park, 200 1st St., where kids can trick-or-treat at participating vendor booths from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The market is also offering a giant pumpkin weight-guessing contest, a monster hunt and a photo spot.
Costumes are encouraged. A list of participating trick-or-treat booths will be available at the Info Booth.
It is also the last regular Farmers' Market of the season, capping the market's 25th anniversary year.
That afternoon, the Monster Mash Spooktacular runs from 2 to 5 p.m. at Christ Church Parish, 1060 Chandler Road. The free event is open to children ages 0-12 and features trick-or-treat stations, candy, crafts and music, according to the City of Lake Oswego. The first 400 guests receive a free trick-or-treat bag while supplies last.
The Halloween weekend begins a day early with a Family Movie Matinee at the Lake Oswego Public Library, 706 Fourth St., on Friday, Oct. 30, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The screening features a Minions-themed film, according to the city's event listing.
Zupan's Market at 16380 Boones Ferry Road is also hosting a Halloween in the Breezeway event on Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to the local blog 52 Reasons To Love Lake Oswego. The event includes pumpkin decorating, cookie decorating, a storewide scavenger hunt, popcorn and hot apple cider.
Where to trick-or-treat
For families heading out door-to-door, several Lake Oswego neighborhoods are known for drawing crowds of trick-or-treaters.
Kevin Costello, a realtor at Cascade Hasson who writes the 52 Reasons To Love Lake Oswego blog, published his annual neighborhood guide on Oct. 25. He listed Westlake as a top pick because of its flat terrain and closely spaced homes. "He came home with over 20 pounds of the sweet stuff," Costello wrote of his son's best trick-or-treating haul in Westlake.
Bryant Woods and River Run also made the list for their flat, walkable layouts. First Addition, Country Club and Marylhurst round out the guide.
Costello also flagged a house on Childs Road near the intersection of Indian Creek as what he called "the most Halloween-decked-out house in Lake Oswego."
