Oregon City residents curious about artificial intelligence can learn the basics for free starting Monday, Aug. 3, when Pioneer Community Center kicks off a four-week series called "AI Made Simple."

The one-hour sessions run every Monday through Aug. 24, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the center, 615 5th St.

Each class covers practical, everyday uses of AI tools: drafting emails, planning trips, organizing information, and brainstorming ideas. No tech background is required. The four sessions on Aug. 3, 10, 17, and 24 build on each other, walking participants through increasingly useful applications of AI in daily life without assuming any prior familiarity with the technology.

The series is open to adults 21 and older. Oregon City Parks and Recreation, which operates Pioneer Community Center, announced the program on its city alerts page Wednesday, July 29.

The department said on Facebook that the AI series is part of a broader summer lineup of free workshops and presentations at the center covering energy savings, emergency preparedness, and fall prevention.

Residents can reserve a spot by calling 503-657-8287 or stopping by the Pioneer Community Center reception desk during business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Oregon City Parks and Recreation described the program as aiming to help residents stay informed, connected, and empowered through accessible community education.

What's next at Pioneer Community Center

• Wednesday, Aug. 5, 10–11 a.m. — Energy Education Workshop covering ways to reduce utility costs and grants and assistance programs for qualifying homeowners and renters.
• Wednesday, Aug. 12, 10–11:15 a.m. — Red Cross Ready, an American Red Cross Cascades Region presentation on emergency planning, preparedness kits, and accessing reliable information during disasters.
