Clackamas Community College will walk students and families through financial aid applications at a free workshop Thursday, Oct. 8, at its Oregon City campus, according to a college announcement.
The session runs 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Wacheno Welcome Center at 19600 Molalla Ave. Staff from CCC's financial aid and scholarship offices will offer one-on-one help completing three applications: the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), the ORSAA (Oregon Student Aid Application) and the CCC Foundation scholarship application.
The workshop is open to students across the college's district, which includes Lake Oswego, West Linn and Oregon City families.
The CCC Foundation's scholarship deadline falls Wednesday, Oct. 14, six days after the workshop.
$1 million in scholarships, one application
The CCC Foundation distributes more than $1 million in scholarships each year, according to the college's Aug. 24 announcement.
Nearly 200 awards are available across all majors and income levels. One in three applicants receives a scholarship, and the average award tops $2,500.
One application automatically matches students with every scholarship they qualify for. Students can save their progress and finish in stages.
Most recipients must enroll in at least six credits per term and maintain a 2.0 GPA. Awards cover winter and spring terms of the 2026-27 academic year, with notifications going out in November.
A recent scholarship recipient wrote in a letter to the Foundation: "Your scholarship is helping me turn that hope into reality … it is an opportunity."
Federal and state aid applications
The FAFSA determines eligibility for federal grants, loans and work-study programs. The ORSAA provides access to state financial aid for students who cannot complete the FAFSA. Both are free.
Filing either form also helps students qualify for the Oregon Promise Grant, a state program that helps recent high school graduates attend community college at little or no tuition cost. Oregon Promise covers up to 12 credits per term, according to the state Higher Education Coordinating Commission. CCC's federal school code is 004878.
