A charity car tour winding through Lake Oswego and West Linn on Saturday, Sept. 12, will raise scholarship money for dental students at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).

The Dr. Quinton-Cox Memorial Car Tour starts at the Safeway parking lot in downtown Lake Oswego before 10 a.m. and ends at Tumwater Vineyard in West Linn by 1 p.m. Drivers can bring vintage cars, everyday vehicles, or anything in between. Any vehicle qualifies.

A Lake Oswego Fire Department truck will join the procession.

The tour funds $1,000 to $2,000 in annual scholarships for five to eight OHSU School of Dentistry students, according to the Lake Oswego Review. Dr. Quinton-Cox taught at the dental school from 1966 to 1989 and raised money for students throughout his career. After he died, his family kept the scholarship fund alive through donations and word of mouth.

Organizer Steve Attinasi, a Corvette club member who does group tours, said he pitched the idea of a community drive to support the fund.

"I got involved because I'm with a Corvette club and we do tours. I introduced the idea of 'Why don't we have a get together where we can take a drive around town?'" Attinasi told the Lake Oswego Review.

The event is open to all, not just car-show regulars. Attinasi called it family-friendly and said it gives people a chance to meet neighbors while raising scholarship money.

A previous running of the tour in August 2023 drew around 26 vehicles, including Corvettes and Mustangs, traveling around Oswego Lake and into West Linn.

Tumwater Vineyard is located at 375 SW Barrel House Way in West Linn. More information is available at the event website.
