Two Lake Oswego Creamery employees want to buy the 40-year-old ice cream shop and keep it open.

he money would go toward purchasing the business from owner Stan Prentice, who told staff he plans to close due to rising costs, the Lake Oswego Review reported Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Prentice has not publicly detailed which costs are forcing the closure. No timeline for when the shop would shut its doors appears in available records.

Ulam told the Review the pair are driven by the relationships they have built with customers over the years.

"We just have our regulars we absolutely love, so we want to keep it open," Ulam said. "And, as of right now, he is no longer keeping the business, so we're trying to keep it open … We love the community, everything about it, so we want to find a way to keep it going."

The creamery, founded in 1986, has operated in Lake Oswego for four decades.

Ulam said most summer staff are Lake Oswego students working their first job. She described a customer base that spans generations: parents bring their children in and recall being brought there by their own parents when they were young.

Sullivan and Ulam titled the fundraiser "Save the Lake Oswego Creamery!" The campaign page describes their goal as covering "urgent costs to keep the Creamery serving memories."

One discrepancy worth noting: the GoFundMe page lists the organizer as Jazmine Woods, while the Review identified her as Jazmine Sullivan. The reason for the difference is unclear.

Neither Sullivan nor Prentice has commented publicly beyond what the Review reported. The campaign's $50,000 target remains the stated goal, but no deadline for the fundraiser or the potential closure has been announced.
