Ohana Chang's goal early in the second half lifted Lake Oswego to a 2-2 draw with West Linn on Thursday, Oct. 1.
The senior midfielder's equalizer came 2 minutes and 31 seconds into the second half at Lake Oswego High School, where the Lakers hosted the four-time defending Three Rivers League champions in both teams' league opener, as the Lake Oswego Review reported.
Chang controlled the ball at the top of the penalty box, turned and put a shot into the upper left corner. Neither team scored again.
Lake Oswego (2-5-2 overall, 0-0-1 TRL) had taken the early lead when senior forward Zoie Velander set up junior forward Leena Bristol on the left side. Bristol, a 2025 TRL Second Team selection, beat West Linn senior goalkeeper Savannah Ferrell.
West Linn answered with two goals in 1 minute and 43 seconds. Junior forward Elyse Yohman stole the ball near the Lake Oswego penalty area and scored past freshman keeper Jules Weber. Then, with 9:43 left in the first half, a handball call in the box gave the Lions a penalty kick. Sophomore midfielder Bella Moultrie converted for a 2-1 halftime lead.
Chang, also a 2025 Second Team all-league pick, said the team channeled a difficult nonleague schedule into the West Linn match.
"We were really hyped, so we've just got to bring this energy into the rest of our league games," Chang said.
West Linn controlled possession after halftime, outshooting the Lakers 3-0 and holding an 8-0 edge in corner kicks. Chang's strike was the only goal of the final 40 minutes.
Senior captain Ruby Aman, a defender, said the Lakers executed well on things they had been working on. She added that the team has the tools to compete despite being young.
The result extended Lake Oswego's winless streak to three games but marked a strong showing against a program that went 6-0 in TRL play last season and reached the Class 6A state championship game before falling 4-1 to Jesuit, according to a West Linn Tidings preseason report. West Linn (3-4-2, 0-0-1) is under first-year head coach Ian Monihan, a 2010 West Linn graduate who succeeded Kevin Legg.
The OSAA ranks West Linn No. 22 and Lake Oswego No. 25 in Class 6A as of Friday, Oct. 2.
Both teams return to action Tuesday, Oct. 6. Lake Oswego travels to Tigard for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. West Linn hosts Oregon City at 7 p.m.
