Kevin Love remains the only former Lake Oswego Laker to appear on the cover of SLAM Magazine, a distinction highlighted by the publication's latest issue.
SLAM Issue 265, the December/January 2027 edition, features USC Trojans stars Jazzy Davidson, JuJu Watkins and Saniyah Hall. Davidson, a Clackamas High School graduate, joins a short list of Oregon-born basketball players to land on the cover, The Oregonian reported on Oct. 29.
Love appeared on SLAM's cover in 2012 alongside Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Ricky Rubio. At Lake Oswego High School, Love led the Lakers to three state championship games and won the Class 4A title in 2006, according to the Lake Oswego Review. He finished his prep career with 2,628 points, then the state's all-time leading scorer across all classifications.
Lake Oswego High retired Love's jersey numbers at a March 14 ceremony. He wore both No. 00 and No. 42 during his Laker career.
The Oregonian noted that fellow Oregon native Cameron Brink has appeared on SLAM's cover three times. Portland-born Domantas Sabonis made the cover in 2023. Portland native Damon Stoudamire, who played at Wilson (now Ida B. Wells-Barnett High School), was featured in May 1996.
Davidson set the all-time Class 6A scoring record with 2,726 points at Clackamas High. That total exceeds Love's 2,628, though the two played in different classifications. She led the Cavaliers to a 104-14 record over four seasons and a 6A state championship in 2023, according to The Oregonian.
The cover honor caps a breakout year. In her freshman season at USC, Davidson averaged 17.9 points and 4.1 assists per game, according to her USC Athletics roster page, which lists 5.9 rebounds per game. The Oregonian reported 5.6 rebounds per game. She earned the U.S. Basketball Writers Association's National Freshman Player of the Year award.
USC head coach Lindsay Gottlieb described her trio of cover stars in the SLAM feature. "They are true hoopers. They love the game," Gottlieb said.
The USC women's basketball season opens in November.
