Candidates running for Lake Oswego City Council, Clackamas County commission and other local offices have until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25 to submit statements for the county voters' pamphlet, the booklet mailed to every household in Clackamas County in early October.

The deadline applies to county, city and special district candidates across the county, according to the Clackamas County Elections office. Statements are optional but give candidates a direct channel to voters who rely on the pamphlet to make ballot decisions.

Submitting a statement costs $100 for Lake Oswego, West Linn and Oregon City candidates, and $300 for county-level candidates. A 2.75% service fee applies to credit or debit card payments.

Lake Oswego's four-seat race

Five candidates are competing for four open Lake Oswego City Council seats in the Nov. 3 general election: Bryan Guiney, Patrick Walsh, Heather Ramsey, Neil Tunmore and Suzanne Miles. Three seats carry four-year terms; the fourth, left vacant by Councilor Rapf's resignation in April, carries a two-year term.

Tunmore, a former Intel corporate services director and 26-year Lake Oswego resident, said when he announced his candidacy Aug. 14: "Every single tax dollar spent should add value to our city."

Councilor Trudy Corrigan announced Aug. 17 she would not seek re-election. That left five candidates for four seats.

County races on the ballot

County-level candidates facing the same Tuesday deadline include contested races for County Commissioner Position 2 (Paul Savas vs. Mark Shull), County Commissioner Position 4 (Diana Helm vs. R W Smith), County Clerk (Catherine McMullen vs. Mark Reaksecker) and County Sheriff (Brad O'Neil vs. James Rhodes). The sheriff filing period also closes at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

How to submit

Candidates must complete their Declaration of Candidacy filing, fill out the Candidate Statement form and optional endorsement form, and pay the applicable fee. City candidates file with their city recorder; county candidates file with County Clerk Catherine McMullen.
