A century-old bridge that blocks salmon migration, a plan to speed up housing placements and new reminders about fire restrictions were all on the table as Clackamas County leaders tackled a packed agenda Tuesday.
The Board of Commissioners discussed support for a $73 million replacement of the Kellogg Creek Bridge in Milwaukie, including a push for $55 million in federal funding for the project.
The Highway 99E bridge, built in 1934, sits over aging infrastructure that limits salmon and steelhead access to upstream habitat, according to county officials. The proposed replacement would improve fish passage, address seismic concerns and create a 14-acre natural area near Milwaukie Bay Park.
The county also reviewed:
- Housing changes: A proposal allowing the Housing Authority executive director to sign certain leases without individual board approval, which officials say could help residents move into housing faster.
- Fire season rules: A reminder that backyard burn season has ended, while recreational fires remain subject to local restrictions and fire conditions.
The board’s next public meeting is Thursday, July 9, at 10 a.m. at the county headquarters in Oregon City. The agenda includes additional housing agreements involving state and regional funding.
