Lake Oswego's 32nd annual Summer Concert Series is three weeks into its run, an art exhibit celebrating six decades of creative work at Menucha closes next week, and neighbors in West Linn and Oregon City have their own reasons to get outside before the month ends.
Here's what's coming up across the area through the weekend of July 26.
Last chance for 'Art x Hand' at Artspace Gallery
The Arts Council of Lake Oswego's exhibit "Art x Hand: 60 Years of Arts at Menucha" closes Friday, July 17. The show features works by 18 artists who served as instructors, coordinators, or board members of the Creative Arts Community over the past six decades.
Names on the walls include Yuji Hiratsuka, Mary Josephson, Cynthia Lahti, Dennis Meiners, and Phyllis Trowbridge.
Trowbridge, whose oil painting "The Old Oak, November" is in the show, recalled her favorite memory of the Menucha retreat: "The beautiful setting - the wonderful dahlias in bloom, the swimming pool, the woods and the view of the gorge through the trees."
The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 380 A Ave., Suite A, in the city hall building next to Booktique. Admission is free.
Lake Oswego Summer Concert Series continues
Lance Hofstad, the city's concert coordinator, said the 32nd year of free park concerts is built around a simple idea: "You can see your neighbors, hang out and listen to some good music."
Upcoming dates:
- Sunday, July 12 — Ashleigh Flynn & The Riveters (Americana rock), Millennium Plaza Park, 6:30–8 p.m.
- Wednesday, July 15 — Eagle Eyes (Eagles tribute), Foothills Park, 7–9 p.m.
- Wednesday, July 22 — Band After Midnight (ABBA tribute), Foothills Park, 7–9 p.m.
Wednesday shows at Foothills Park feature food trucks including Bocado (Dominican empanadas), Bulgarian Job (Mediterranean and Balkan), Caiman Café (Cuban and Mexican), and Fryed (fried chicken). All concerts are free.
West Linn kicks off Music in the Park
West Linn Parks & Recreation launches its own Thursday-night series at Tanner Creek Park on Thursday, July 23. Petty Fever, a Tom Petty tribute band, opens the five-week run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The series continues weekly through Thursday, August 20. Bring a chair or blanket.
