Eva Perinelle grew up speaking French. On Tuesday, Aug. 25, the Lake Oswego Public Library staff member will introduce one of French cinema's biggest international hits before the film screens in the Oak Room at the Adult Community Center.
According to the library's event listing, the World Cinema Series brings "The Intouchables" to 505 G Avenue, Lake Oswego, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The 2011 film, directed by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, is based on the true story of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo, a wealthy quadriplegic, and Abdel Sellou, the young caregiver from a disadvantaged background who upended his world.
Starring François Cluzet and Omar Sy, it earned a 93% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed more than $444 million worldwide.
The film will be shown in French with English subtitles. Perinelle will give a special introduction before the screening, and attendees can stay afterward for an open discussion about the film's themes of friendship across class lines.
The World Cinema Series runs monthly. In May, the series screened the Brazilian coming-of-age film "The Way He Looks" at the Lake Theater & Café. The August installment moves to the Adult Community Center's main floor.
Residents who can't make it in person can stream "The Intouchables" through the library's Kanopy service with a Lake Oswego Public Library card.
