Mark Wiepert, the Gatorade Oregon Football Player of the Year who starred at Wilsonville High School, is heading to San Antonio.

The 6-foot-1, 211-pound quarterback announced July 7, via social media that he will transfer from the University of Oregon to the University of Texas at San Antonio to play football for the Roadrunners this fall. His announcement included a graphic of him in a UTSA uniform.

Wiepert redshirted his freshman season for both the Oregon football and baseball programs during the 2025-26 academic year and did not appear in a game for either team, according to the Wilsonville Spokesman.

He played quarterback under head coach Dan Lanning and caught for coach Mark Wasikowski's baseball squad. He spent most of the spring in football workouts before joining the baseball team in May.

He entered the transfer portal during college baseball's transfer window in June but chose UTSA to play football.

The move closes a remarkable chapter at Wilsonville, where Wiepert was among the most decorated multi-sport athletes in school history. He led the Wildcats to the 2025 OSAA Class 5A state football championship, an 11-2 season capped by a 56-35 win over Mountain View in the title game. Wiepert scored eight touchdowns in that final — five rushing, three passing.

His senior football numbers were staggering: 3,803 passing yards, 51 touchdown passes, 700 rushing yards, and 12 rushing scores. On defense, he compiled 81 tackles and punted for a 41.1-yard average, earning First Team Special District 2 honors at quarterback, safety, and punter.

"Mark Wiepert has had a truly standout year," Lakeridge head coach Spencer Phillips said in the Gatorade award announcement. "His command of the passing game, his decision-making and ability to read defenses are at an elite level."

On the diamond, Wiepert hit .554 with a 1.464 OPS during his senior season at Wilsonville, breaking school records for batting average, on-base percentage (.613), and slugging percentage (.833). He drove in 60 runs with six home runs, four triples, and 10 doubles. Perfect Game ranked him the No. 1 catcher and No. 5 overall baseball player in Oregon. On the football recruiting side, 247Sports had him as the state's No. 12 prospect.

Wiepert's Gatorade honor followed West Linn's Sam Leavitt (2022-23) and Lake Oswego's Jack Layne (2021-22) as recent area winners of the award.

Originally committed to Oregon State for baseball, Wiepert flipped to Oregon late in the recruiting cycle after his dominant state championship performance.

UTSA's 2026 football schedule includes a road game at Texas on September 19 at 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
